Role summary

  • To act as operational Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor for selected asset/project activities, focusing on project planning and proactive management of operational and field health, safety and environmental work, promoting high HSE values and behaviours.

Areas of responsibility

  • Leadership:  Able to support HSE planning and support field HSE operational activities.  Uphold and promote HSE behaviours in line with Group Corporate Responsibility (CR) Principles, Policies and CR Management System (CRMS).  Ensure that compatible health, safety and environmental culture and systems are integrated into our activities and contractor alignment is achieved.
  • Project Delivery:  Act as HSE Advisor for asset/project on behalf of the Group on specific programmes in our operated and non-operated portfolio.  The role will act under direction of Senior HSE personnel but assume responsibility for key tasks as identified and be willing to develop skills to act as a HSE Lead over time
  • Preparation of Project Delivery Process (Gated Process) document deliverables and participation in PDP gate meetings for specified projects.  Delivery of health, safety and environmental services to internal stakeholders.
  • HSE Contractor Management: Evaluate contractors bid documentation, direct activities, develop and implement: HSE management systems documentation, HSE Bridging documentation and Emergency Response Plans; and, related documentation. Able to develop clear matrices of in-house and contractor responsibilities.  Liaise with contractors on corporate responsibility requirements.  Able to participate in accident/incident investigation and reporting.
  • Hazard & Risk: Understand HSE/CR related hazards and risks, able to participate in project hazard/risk related workshops and risk assessments.  Develop and manage project risk registers and ensure risk mitigation plans are in place and actions tracked and closed out.
  • Assurance: Develop and implement mechanisms and registers to ensure compliance with the commitments, permit/regulatory conditions and Corporate requirements. Manage, organise and participate in technical HSE audits and inspection programmes in relation to compliance with regulations, management systems and maintaining appropriate HSE behaviours.
  • Performance Monitoring:  Assist in HSE data collection from projects and relevant contractors and provide advice on continual improvement and performance against objectives, targets and KPI’s.
  • Emergency: Participate as Duty HSE Co-ordinator on the Cairn Crisis & Emergency Response Team (CERT) including: as a rota member; participation in emergency response training;  and exercise requirements.

Skills/Experience Required

Education: 

Degree in a relevant technical discipline

Further professional HSE qualification (eg. NEBOSHII Diploma / CMIOSH) required

Relevant experience

Relevant Experience / Skills:

  • Experience gained in a HSE advisory role, preferably including overseas experience, across seismic, drilling and production activities.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of implementing HSE plans, procedures, methods, reporting, and training to UK/EU/International industry standards.
  • Experience of application of ISO 14001/ OHSAA18001 including implementing HSE policies, procedures, and associated programmes.
  • Accident / Incident Investigation competence.
  • Prove abilities in planning, organising, coordinating and communicating in a project environment.
  • Experience of MS Office Programmes.
  • Experience of working in an international context.
  • Experience of working within a demanding operating team environment, and demonstrating a strong awareness of HSE and risk management issues.
  • Track record and ability to communicate and work in high pressure situations.
